Born and raised in Cape Town (South Africa), Kurt fell in love with music at a young age. Influenced by his fathers extensive tape collection, he began exploring different genres and styles from Jazz, Gospel, Funk, Soul and R&B. In 2003 Kurt’s family immigrated to New Zealand where he first discovered his passion for music production and DJing. Kurt started developing an understanding and appreciation for the art of DJing in 2007 when he first learnt to mix on a single Vestax turntable and a Rane Empath mixer.
In 2008 he started learning music production software and was involved with numerous artists and collectives in the Auckland music scene. With a career spanning over 10 years, he has solidified himself as a versatile and passionate DJ.
After many years of hard work and dedication, Kurt started to gain recognition for his music production which later provided him with an opportunity to be involved with radio shows such as Cosmic Radio on Auckland’s ‘Base FM’.
In 2011 he started playing at some of the most exclusive clubs and events across the Auckland nightlife circuit and became one of the first Afrobeats DJ’s in New Zealand. His unique ability to read a crowd and craft seamless sets that span multiple genres has earned him a devoted fanbase and a reputation as a true tastemaker among industry professionals in New Zealand and Australia.
Kurt also manages and operates his own record label and has multiple music releases under his DJ/Production alias ‘Kappa Wam’. In 2018 Kurt received his bachelor in audio production as a distinguished music producer among his classmates, passing with excellence in dubbed audio and studio operations. Today Kurt is continuing to push the boundaries as a musician and is furthering his industry knowledge as a professional DJ.
